Marion Robert Morrison, nació el 26 de Mayo de 1907 en Winterset, Iowa. Sus primeras intervenciones las hizo bajo el nombre de Duke Morrison, dio sus primeros pasos como extra y su papel protagonista le llegará en 1930 a las órdenes de Raoul Walsh que fue quien se encargó de bautizarlo artísticamente como John Wayne.
En su dilatada carrera cinematográfica, destaca la interpretación que hizo en Centauros del desierto, una obra maestra y el mejor western de todos los tiempos. Este papel lo obtuvo gracias a John Ford, con el que había entablado amistad años antes tras intervenir en algunas de sus películas, y que será quien lo recomiende a Raoul Walsh.
